Helbiz E-Scooters Officially Approved by the Department for Transportation in the United Kingdom
Helbiz partners with Segway-Ninebot to offer innovative e-scooters across the UK
NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Helbiz, a global leader in micro-mobility, today announced a milestone in the United Kingdom as its e-scooters have officially been approved by the Department for Transportation (DfT) and is now permitted to be used in trials approved by local authorities and the DfT. Helbiz has partnered with leading short distance transportation device manufacturer, Segway-Ninebot, to equip its fleets as it looks to begin operations in the region.
“The Segway team is extremely proud to be a part of Helbiz’s recent success in the Italian and US markets,” said Tony Ho, Segway-Ninebot Group’s VP for Global Business Development. “As a partner from the beginning, we witnessed Helbiz’s growth from a young startup to a leader in numerous markets in a short period of time. Knowing the team’s dedication and passion for the micro-mobility revolution, we are confident that Helbiz will bring the same success to the UK market. Now with the approval by the DfT, we can begin working closely with Helbiz in the UK to provide world class service to local communities. We are excited to bring more innovative products and services to the market.”
“The UK remains an important region for Helbiz to operate in, and we’re committed to partnering with local authorities to offer an affordable and environmentally sustainable last mile transportation alternative,” said Salvatore Palella, founder and CEO of Helbiz. “As the market leader in Italy where Helbiz is synonymous with micro-mobility, we look forward to being on-the-ground to help residents and tourists across the UK move.”
Helbiz has identified more than 20 cities across the UK where its fleet of e-scooter and e-bikes would seamlessly integrate into existing transportation infrastructures or offer an alternative travel option. To highlight its dedication to the UK, Helbiz plans to hire dozens of full-time employees, including highly-skilled workers such as engineers and mechanics, in each city it enters, while building community programmes that help foster talent and develop careers. The company has an established UK-based office and a regional manager that will execute the deployment of its fleet, manage the warehouses and lead the on-the-ground operations and recruitment efforts.
